Sick or pregnant cichlid please help
I have two Jack Dempsey's. One I've had for two years and the other one I just got and it is about six years old. I put the two together about a month ago and they really seemed to like each other. For the last week and a half though the six year old has been hiding in it's cave and not eating. We moved the rock two days ago to see if it was alive and it has a bloated belly on the one side and is swimming on it's side. It has white stuff which kind of looks like eggs coming from where it poops. I read that fish when pregnant don't eat sometimes but I don't think it should be swiming on it's side. Any help would be good.
Thats a sick JD. not preggers. You need to start treatment ASAP.
Not a medical man myself, but possibly a internal infection.
Moved to where you may get more help.
Can you please post water params and basic info? Size of tank, size of fish, filtration used, how often you perform water changes, what foods you offer and how much/how often, etc etc.
The more information you can provide the faster someone can help. Please do not attempt to medicate this fish before checking water params. There are many here who can help sort out water params to be sure it is safe to medicate, while also trying to identify the problem so we know what medication to suggest for your specific needs.
