Guppy and Molly compatibility?
My boyfriend and I have just set up our first aquarium, and I'm having a bit of an issue with a new molly we just bought this morning.
The tank has been set up for a few weeks, and we have a male guppy, two female guppies, and two x-ray tetras. I remember my mom having a tank with guppies and mollies co-existing just fine, and bought 2 what I thought are female mollies this morning (I didn't want to add any more males).
The male guppy won't leave one of the mollies alone. I haven't seen this fish be very aggressive with any of the others, but it keeps chasing this molly all over the tank and nips at her tail.
I really, really like this molly and don't want him to worry her to death... do I need to pull the male guppy out of there? or will he settle down once the 'new-ness' has worn off?
I'm admittedly new to this whole world of owning fish... Anyone have any advice, or know what I'm doing wrong here?
Thanks for any help!
Is he actually nipping her fins? Could be he's trying to do the mating dance guppies and mollies can interbreed.
