Big Computer Crash
We were gone all day yesterday and when I came back I didn't have a chance to look at the computer.
This morning I noticed I had some things missing. I checked a bit further and found that all of the games that come with Vista, All of my Microsoft Programs and some of the ones I have purchased were gone.
When I tried to do to the System Restore, it was missing also. Things just kept getting worst so I just shut it down and redid the whole thing.
I still don't have more than this forum and the Lotto results one. My next thing will be the antivirus program. Don't trust the Vista one.
This could take a few days.:-):-)
Its a malware that goes around it slowly removes stuff (actually just makes it a hidden file) to make you think you are infected with something, then some time later it pops up saying if you buy this product your stuff will be back. Easiest way to remove it is with a product called super anti spyware but even that sometimes doesn't work so you have to manual unhide all your files and reassign .exe file extensions to the windows shell.
Seen this one a few times :)
I reinstalled my Vista and am rebuilding the computer. I will look into the SAS. I am going to the bank today as it is payday and will be running all day.
I also plan to look at a 20 gallon setup. (She finally got used to the fish.) We will have 2 aquariums, a 5 gallon and a 20 gallon. That should keep me busy in my retirement.
Thanks for the tip. I am not that much of a computer geek. My 31 year old son is much better at it.:-)
If the antivirus and antimalware progams you have can't pick anything up I would wipe the entire HHD and do a clean install. The UBCD is a great free tool to use when trouble shooting or fixing computers. Vista is a PITA though. My laptop came with it and I suffered 2 HHD failures one at 8 months and the "amazing" warranty support at HP gave me a refurbished HHD that lasted a year and a half before going the same way. Bought my 3rd HDD, same brand but with a 5 year warranty, switched to Windows 7 and its been amazing ever since.
For antivirus I prefer Norton and if you watch online sights you can get it pretty much free. I've never had a problem with viruses, malware, ect. I've always used norton and malware-bytes. There is a antivirus on the UBCD that has found and removed malware from my friends computer.
