Bubble Tip Anemone
I recently (four day ago) purchased a bubble tip anemone. For the past three days he has looked great! Eating his food; opens nice and wide...
But since this morning when the light came on... he has shriveled up and hasn't opened since!
There is this weird stringy stuff surrounding him.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.
Hopefully the stringy stuff is his waste, which will come from his mouth in the centre. its normal for them to shrivel up when they are getting rid of there waste
Otherwise if the anemone looks like it is falling apart & your tank starts to smell, it is dying & will quickly poison your tank
Can you get a picture for us? What you're describing could be the process of passing waste, but let me ask something else... are there any corals or other anemones in the tank? If so, how close is the bubble to the others, and what are they? Not all animals are compatible with each other, and even a coral has a way of protecting its own territory. Some corals will send out long worm like tenticles to sting the corals around them, thus killing them. Some anemones are known to sting other corals, and even each other if they get too close to each other.
Hope this helps... a photo would help us to determine your problem, as would water params for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, and calcium. When water quality is in trouble, anemones and other inverts are usually the first to show signs of a problem. Anytime something isn't "right" with such animals its a good idea to check water quality. If you post test results here we can help you to further sort things out.
Best of luck to you and your anemone!
