Hi, I recently had a problem with my tank and lost quite a few fish. It was due to bad water conditions. But there are two fish left. One I thought was pregnant due to a bigger belly. But during the time the fish were all dying, she sat on the bottom with clamped fins for two days. I couldn't believe she was still alive, but the next day she was up and swimming. It's been a while now and she is still alive. Her belly is still kinda big, is it possible that she could still have the fry if she is pregnant? Does anyone know how to tell if they are pregnant or not? I heard you look for dark spots on the belly. But she has black spots covering most of her body so I'm not sure how to tell, other than the fact she is pretty fat. thanks.
look in her belly, on the very back of the swollen belly you will barely notice a gravid spot. its hard to see sometimes but its sometimes right above her anal fin. this is a blurry but nice example of mine:
Now excuse for only showing halve the fish and for extreme blurry pic but if u notice the black spot on the back of her somewhat white belly u can see all of those little buggers in there. and if this is the case then watch out because bad water conditions can cause still births and pre mature little guys.
Thanks for the post, I have spent pretty much hours looking for this gravid spot. It's pretty much impossible. Fish don't stay still long enough. I guess I'll just wait and see. Who knows maybe I'll have little guys swimming around again.
