GIANT apple snail tank size

So I was in some cheapish pet store, nosing around the fish section when I saw an apple snail. It was the size of a freakin' BASEBALL! No exaggeration. I heard something online about a medium sized one needing 2.5 gallons, but this guy would look cramped in my 10 gallon! Can he live in the 10 or the empty 5 gallon tank that I have? It's so COOL!

I was just talking to my friend at petsmart the other day about snails and he said the apple snails are named for just that- they will reach the size of an apple! I don't suggest cramping it in a 10 gallon, because A) you'd be limited on what other fish you could tank with it, if any at all and B) you'd be limiting his eating parameters as well, because if im correct, they eat algae and stuff so he wouldn't have much room to wander. I'd say for one THAT size, 40-55 gallons minimum, but you'd be safe with ONE small one in a 10 gallon for a year or so. And i say this without googling first, so dont quote me on it.
