Guppies picking on my sick Rainbow shark
My Rainbow shark is just finished with his treatment for ick. He seems to be doing better, but occasionally when he sits at the bottom of the tank to 'chill' one guppy in particular starts poking/nipping at him until the shark gets annoyed and swims away or chases the guppy.I've mentioned this to a few people and they a bit astonished that a peaceful guppy would be doing such things. Do I have an overaggressive guppy? I can only imagine this is stressing out the shark as he's in recovery ( i don't have a hospital tank).
What can i do to help?
Believe it or not, male guppies can actually be quite aggressive, especially with anything that they see as either a potential competitor or mate.
If there doesn't seem to be any serious harm to either, then it may just require a bit of time for the rainbow shark to regain his strength before all is well again. Do make sure that you have ample hiding places for the both of them, as hiding spots always help ease aggression. If there is obvious signs of stress/damage on either of them, then you may have to consider removing one from the tank instead.
Ive added some pvc and additional rocks for the rainbow to hide. I always thought that guppies male or female were peaceful, but man! This one's a bully! Im hoping this ick clears up soon so all my lil dudes can live happily again.
