Angelfish in 29g?
I have a 29 gallon, heavily planted tank that is currently stocked with: 3x Cory Cats, 3x Zebra Danios, 4x Neon Tetras, and a Dwarf Gourami. I am looking for something bigger (like the size of the gourami I.E. not the size of a tetra or danio) and i was reading about angelfish. I have heard that they can be pretty agressive and grow to be pretty big. So, to the point, do you think that an Angelfish would be a good fit for this tank? If not what else would you reccomend?
Angelfish would be to big for a 29gall. If you had a mated pair and that were the only fish then maybe it would work but other wise Angels need to be in a group of at least 5 for social reason and that requires at least a 4 foot tank. I was might suggest getting more Cory cats as they really need to be groups of 6+ as they are highly social fish.
I don't think angelfish would be a good fit. I mean, perhaps a breeding pair in a 29g, at most with only a few substrate fish, but not with what you have. Angelfish need to be either in a mated pair, or a group. And this doesn't even take into consideration that they wouldn't mix well with your gourami and danios.
Before you look at any new kinds of fish, I would adjust the numbers of fish you already have. The cory cats, the danios, and the neons all need to be in larger groups. I would aim for at least 6 of each kind, but the more the merrier (space permitting).
After you have suitable numbers of the other fish, then you could post your water parameters and all the helpful people here could help you decide if you have room for more fish/what fish would work with what you have.
Kudos to you for asking questions about compatibility and researching before you got more fish! That's awesome!
