How do you get hatchetfish to eat?! I have had them for alil over two weeks now, and I have never seen them eat when I feed them. I have a large open space on the water's surface to help them feed and some flakes even sink right by them, but they do not react. I would hate to lose them from starvation. I don't know how to ensure they eat. Thank a bunch! |
How many hatchetfish do you have? |
I had three, but one died recently from ammonia levels in my water, so I have two. |

Mine seem/seemed (only have one left) to enjoy Bloodworms and would actually swarm wherever i dropped them to keep the tetra's off of the food. But as in your case i had some water issues when i went on vacation and had a friend feed. :frustrated: Hatchets are VERY sensitive to the water conditions. The fact that they were dead when i got back was what made me look into what was wrong with the tank because visually the tank looked fine. [/i] |
I agree with lupin, get a larger group this should help them eat. - also for a long time i would actually have to place the food litterally ONTOP of my hatchets because they did not like to get into the feeding frenzy with the rest of my fish. after a while they got used to being fed with flakes and would swim over like the rest. |
