Feeding Problem

In my wife's 5 gal tank are 2 Platys and 1 Oto.. How does one go about feeding a algae disc to the oto without the 2 plat's pushing him away and eating it themselves. The tank is cycled and has some brown algae on the sides and the driftwood but to make sure he got a treat my wife dropped a half a algae wafer in the tank. He got all excited and start to nibble on it until the other two chased him away!My wife had to get it out of the tank beacause the 2 platy's began showing swollen bellys!! Pigs.:-)

I would recommend rehoming the oto. They prefer to live in shoals, at least 5, and require soft water with a low pH. Do you know the parameters of your water?

You could always feed the platys some floating flakes, at the same time you break an algae disk into a few pieces and drop around the tank. Hopefully the Oto will find it.

for my pleco, i drop the algae disks in on one side of the tank as i'm feeding flakes on the other, distracting the rest on my fish.
