A lot of people breed convicts for feeders, a 30g tank would work well for this. Convicts pair up so you may have to buy 5-7 wait on them to pair then sell/trade back in the rest.
Have managed to keep numerous large, healthy South American ,Central American cichlids over some 40 years without offering feeder fish.
Much more nutritional prepared foods on the market today than when I first began keeping fish.
Feeder fish are only as nutritional as the foods they are fed,and some are rich in Thiaminase(sp) which could actually help deplete vitamins that fish need.
A good cichlid pellet, occasinal chopped krill,Tilapia fillet, earthworms, freezedried cricket's, occasional blood worm (not very nutritious) have worked well for myself and many other's.
Course there will alway's be those who derive some sort of pleasure from offering live feeder fish, but they are not necessary to raise healthy larger fish and many foods offered today are MUCH more nutritional and involve less work to provide.
Also should keep in mind that once feeder fish make the menu,,some larger fishes will refuse to eat anything else which means they are not getting a complete nutritional diet.
too much fat = possible bloating, blockage, intestinal parasites, along with increased chance of Hole in Head disease which more than a few expert's beilieve is diet related.
Ha the problem with convicts is few fish are fast enough to catch them.
