Can I put a blood parrot and oscar in the same tank?
I was thinking about putting a oscar and a blood parrot in the same tank. Will I have any problems?
The best chance to get Oscars to get along with other fish is to raise them together from a young age. I have seen and heard many stories of odd combos when it comes to fish if they were raised this way. Including guppies with an albino Oscar. The oscar would only eat goldfish colored food and crawdads but not the guppies. What size tank are you considering doing this in? An Oscar by itself needs at least a 55 gallon.
Oh and I thought I would intercept this early. There is a lot of descent amoung fish keepers about Blood parrots. They have been interbred so much that they are deformed and their mouths no longer function properly. Not to mention the common practice of dying them. I will not take a stance here about it but wanted to give a heads up. I would however recommend that if you have not gotten it yet, I would consider a different fish for life span reasons and health issues with Blood Parrots in general because of their manipulation by breeders and sellers.
Should not have a problem as long as the blood parrot isnt small enough to be eaten.
I agree with if it is bigger. also i also believe if you raise the other fish with the oscar from a small age with other fish, the oscar will not think of them as food (for the most part). I have a 4" albino oscar with a 6" Blood Parrot. and are working out great. if any thing the BP is more pushy than the oscar. Also i have 13 tiger barbs in the same tank range in size of 2"-3". the oscar dosn't even notice the tiger barbs. working out just fine for now.
