Saltwater setup to freshwater
Someone gave me a 55 gallon aquarium that was setup for saltwater. I just have a few questions in regards to making it acceptable for freshwater fish.

-Can I use crushed coral as my gravel?

-Can I use the wet dry filter as my only filter source?

There is also the fake plants and coral. I know that it will look kind of weird leaving the coral in, but I was going to use it temporarily. Any help would be appreciated.[/list]

Crushed coral can be used as substrate but will increase the ph considerably. Depending on what fish you want to keep this could be a blessing or a curse.

Do you mean keep live coral in the tank temporarily? Or is this still the crushed coral you mean?

I was thinking about just one oscar, but I want to add a blood parrot as well. It just some kind of coral decoration.

Well everything I could find about Oscars say they like a pH under 8. I don't think that crushed coral as a sole substrate is going to lead to a pH that low, more likely 8.5-9. I add a small amount to my tanks and this takes the pH up to 7.6 so a whole tank could be much higher.

As for the blood parrot, same deal as far as pH.
