For All You Horse Lovers

I always enjoy watching these girls every year when we go to the Draft Horse Classic.

A cowgirl drill team...who woulda thunk?? Cute.
What else goes on at the Draft Horse Classic?

great show! We go to our local rodeo every year, but never have anything as fancy as that, We did have PBR riders this year though, crazy stuff! I am classically trained to ride english though so I always enjoyed those shows more. We went to the Lipizzaner stallion show this summer and it was amazing! I am bummed I have not gotten to ride as much as I wanted this summer, but we had a ton of farm work to do, that comes first!

at Kymmie,
Lot's goes on! My sisters, mom and I go every year. Besides the horse show there's an art show, lot's of food, vendors, entertainment, etc. The show itself has different classes with all different breeds of Draft horses (Belgians, Clydesdales, Shires, Percherons, etc) being shown pulling wagons and carriages and there's a log pulling contest. My favorite is the "6 Up Street" class where a hitch of 6 horses maneuver through a course. Back in the old western days horses and wagons were used to deliver goods to the stores etc. This class showcases how they would back up to a loading dock, then the driver using voice commands directs the horses to "fan" to the side which is what they would have to do to get the horses out of the road so they weren't blocking it while the goods were being unloaded. In between classes they have different entertainment acts such as the California cowgirls. Another one of my favorites are the Fresian horses...gorgeous!

at Willow,
Lots and lots of practice! It looks easier than it is. There's a lot of members in that drill team and trying to keep from crashing into each other while remembering a 10 minute routine all while holding a flag in one hand at a gallop, and they make it look easy.

at Sabledog,
I LOVE the Lipizzans! It's been so long since I've seen them though. Such a gorgeous horse.
My sisters and I grew up riding both English and Western. On trail rides we would ride Western but we did a lot of shows English (Jumping, Equitation and Pleasure).

Sorry if I seemed to ramble on here but horses are my first love. I don't have them anymore (can't afford them) and really miss it so going to these shows kinda fills the void. LOL

well,i put my hands up,horses frighten the life out of me,but they are beautiful creatures.

Wow that's the best drill team I've ever seen! They definitely do make it looks easier than it is

I've done drill before, nothing as amazing as that though. Let me tell you it is hard, but fun and so worth it. There is nothing quite as satisfying as riding at a full gallop.

have to say that is a dream of mine to do that, full gallop on a light brown/tan and white horse...............
oh well,we can dream can't we ?
