when can i re-stock?
i have battled the ick in my tank now, and i think i have won (for now). My total fish lost was 5. i am pretty sure the ones that survived the ick and the treatment are the hardiest fish possible. its been 4-5 days since i've seen any spots. all remaining fish seem happy and fine!
i do not plan to add loaches again- i would rather do a tank of yo yos later. so i will probably fill it up with more danios and tiger barbs.
now the question i pose to you is....when can i begin to re-stock the tank? now it has 6 tiger barbs and three danios- 30 gallons
glad you are on the road to recovery.sorry for your losses.
personally,i would leave it for the minimun of a week,
and in that week,do a couple of Good gravel vacs,
and water changes. jmho
because any ich that have dropped into the substrate
will be waiting there to take up resedence on a new host.
then re-stock slowly so the filter can catch back up.
I'd restock a month after the treatment course has finished.
Ick can cause a lot of problems. Depending on your temps is what the life cycle of ick will be in your tank. The closer to 70F you are, the longer it will take (2wks at 70F), while the closer you are to 80F, the less time it will take (2 dys). In this incubation time, the spores will sit doing nothing in the substrate and afterwards, re-infect your fish. As Lupin suggested, 1 month is probably your best bet.
