Multiple sponge filters and air pumps question!
Sooo...I'm basically contemplating a (very) small guppy breeding setup, and for that I would use sponge filters. But, for my idea, I need 3 filters, and I really don't want to use 3 seperate air pumps (I don't have many outlets). And i have seen the pumps with multiple air outputs, but those are mostly for big tanks. These would be 2---14-15 gal. and 1---5 gal. I just didn't know if you could somehow split the airline tubing, or if there was any other way. Oh, last thought! I'm only 13, so it needs to be kept cheap as possible!!! ;-)
I have these little plastic things that you stick onto the airline and it means that you can run a few airlines off one pump. Don't ask me what they are called or where to get them - they came with one of my tanks! LOL

Yes it is possible to run multiple filters off of one pump. On one pump I have a total of 4 filters running off of one pump. To do so a few things that you will need. An air pump that is either rated for the number of things that you want to run off the pump, or one that is rated for the total gallons that you will be running off the one pump. The next thing that you will need is a gang valve which you can buy at your local store. Some people might recommend a t-connector, but I have never had much luck in getting those to work for me, even when my pumps are rated for over what I am running. With the gang valve you are able to control the amount of air that is going to each filter. A gang valve will cost you a few bucks, and you can get them with 2, 3, or 4 outlets.
Cool! that actually helps a lot! i figured there was a way to split the tubing, but I didn't know how, so thanks.
