Unbelievable!

I bought 2 male and 2 female guppies from the local petsmart last satudray. One male died in 24hr but the 2 females must have been pregnant because I now have over 20 fry hanging out at the top of my tank!

What the heck!!

Welcome to the world of livebearers! The females are pretty much ALWAYS gravid when you buy them. Even if they are in separate tanks at the LFS, they were probably shipped all together.

They don't call guppies 'millions fish' for nothing!

In 6 months you'll probably have 100. lol Even without a male the female can still get pregnant for 6 months.

Yikes!!!

Yep. I've ended up with sometimes more than 60 platy fry. They are quite a pain when you realize that you have no idea how your going to keep like fifty adult platys.

Lol. Yeppers. Hope you have some fishkeeping pals to give them too!
You can also leave the fry in the main tank with no box or net and the adults will get them. It's sad, but has to be done sometimes.

This is my method.

i have had a livebearer tank with guppies platies and mollies and have yet to see a fry make it past 1/2 inch lol

if they did i wouldnt mind but i dont really want to be overrun either.

I;m never around when my females drop, so by the time I discover the fry, the weaker ones have been picked off already, and I'm left with the hardier ones, which I place in a special tank.

I see fry frequently in the shipping bags, haha :).
