New and different livebearer
Just found this guy at my local pet store and HAD to get one. It said it was a 'Golden Halfbeak' but it may go by another name.
Has anybody got these or had experience with them? Apparently they mostly stay on the surface of the tank and are very peaceful.
Id like to try and breed this one and watch them grow. Anyone know how to tell male from female?
Here is a couple of pictures of mine.
Interesting fish. It reminds me of a Gar. I will be watching the thread. Thank you for posting.

Interesting fish, here is a couple of places to check for more information on helping to sex the fish.

I've never seen one looks really cool.
They do look really weird and cool. I think its awesome how they are only small and don't normally grow past 7.5cm long. Means i can have some in my tank :-)
cool looking, and (like all liverbearers) would be happy in my water :) now i might have to plan another tank...:/
Cool yes, new no. Halfbeaks have been in the hobby for decades. Don't keep more than one male in a tank because males are aggressive towards eachother. They're best kept in pairs or one male to several females.
