question about my water parameters
Mty tank has now been set up for 2 days. After my 90% water change yesterday and then turning on the filter/heater the water is much much clearer.
I added the correct amount of water ager to remove chlorines etc and was now not going to change the water until after i complete a fishless cycle.
I tested my water this morning and here is the results.
Temp: 26 C, ie. 78.8 F
ph:8 (This I am worried about, my tap water has a pH of only 7-7.2 so im not sure what has caused this increase.)
Becasue i want to keep neons amongst other fish this pH is way too high (i think)
Any ideas what has caused this increase? would it be the water conditioner? or maybe the rocks or filter.
How can i get the pH down?
It could be the rocks. What kind did you use? Adding some driftwood can help lower Ph.
I agree with Jpet, its probally some sort of decorum. I would cancel out the water conditioner and the filter, but anything is possible I suppose
I bought in from th LFS it was just natural dark gravel.
I plan to add driftwood soon, how much would a couple of peices of wood lower pH?
I couldn't tell you how much driftwood would drop the Ph. Did you test the water more than once? Maybe a step got overlooked during testing. (It can happen) Is it possible that your testing medium is tainted? Just throwin out some ideas.
yeh i tested it twice.
test kit is brand new by a company called Red Sea.
I might just add some driftwood and someplants and begin the tank cycling. and ill observe the pH next month.
