Red Gills?
Hello everyone. I purchased 4 platys at my LFS today and brought them home and let the temperatures adjust and slowly put my tank water in the bag and then released them. They all swam around for a while and then one went to the bottom, however that is not what I am worried about, as it is new to the tank. What im worried about is all of them seem to have very red gills, two of my platys are silver in color and two are the standard orange. While I don't know if it is exactly their gills it is in their gills region.

Sounds like a bacterial infection.

Not exactly.

FIH, please take pictures of your fish. Are they gasping rapidly?

Very red gills are usually very healthy gills. Unless they are gasping for air, you needn't worry. If so, then it may perhaps be some type of nitrogen poisoning. But you say he stays at the bottom which suggests otherwise.

they are all darting around happily now, like I said the staying at the bottom was most likely just movement stress, but I will get the pictures soon.
