male platy Agression

We bought one male and one female platy and the Male is being a real bully and being dominating and is butting into the side and will not give the female any peace, so we asked at the pet shop and the advised to buy a couple of more female to distract his attention. However this is not seemingly working is this common or is it courtship or sheer bullying.

Hello and welcome to TFK :-D It is recommended that when keeping male and female platys that they be kept in a ratio of at least 2:1 female to male. Males have pretty much 2 goals to eat and to reproduce. I will see my males choose one of the females that he will follow around continously for awhile trying to mate with her. Eventually he will change his attention to one of the other females. Providing plenty of hiding spots with plants and other decor will give the females places to get to that will get them out of the male's sight every once in awhile. Other than chasing the females around is there any other signs of agression such as nipping of fins?

No just nugding into the side of her (but like really hard )and not letting her feed. and letting the other two females feed But it seems all the fish just go for this particular platy we have. we have plenty of hiding places and we feed them morining and night.

The nudging in the side I would not worry about too much. For the feeding how long has that been going on for?
