New Aggressive Female Platy HELP!
Help me please,
I just got a Bumblebee Platy (Not sure if it is female but that is what I asked for) It is yellow with the traditional mask with a tint of red on the tail. Its anal fin is frayed and it might just be very stressed from transitioning tanks. It has been aggressive towards the male, chasing him and nipping him making him stressed. She is also being very jittery and won't stop dashing around the tank especially when I am near. PLEASE HELP!
Separate them is usually the only option it might be a temporary thing or might be permanent only time will tell.
I agree with zof, they may need to be seperated. Does the female look like she is pregnant at all. With my platys they tend to hide more when getting close to dropping fry. But I know with some fish they may become more aggressive when they are getting close. I hear this more with mollys, but each fish is different, so it could be a possiblity. How long has she been in this tank?
for only a day now but she seems to be getting less aggressive so I will see what happens, but if she is still aggressive i will definitely separate them! Thank you for your help.
It could be the stress of a new environment. One thing that you can do when you are adding a new fish to your tank to help reduce stress is to feed the other fish before you add the new fish. When you add the new fish leave the lights off on the tank for the rest of that day. This will tend to help reduce the stress on being introduced to a new environment.
