cories and sand
i know cories prefer sand, but is smooth gravel actually bad for them?
i don't have any yet, and probably won't for 6 months to a year, but i want to make sure i have everything i need for when i get them. if i have to change substrate for them, i'd like to know in advance so i can better plan my tanks/changes i'm going to be doing.
you don't have to put them on sand, however it does have benefits,it can help stop their
barbels from wearing away, although on small smooth gravel they'll be ok,
they are fun to watch on sand while they sift through it ,as it pours out the sides
of their gills......so on sand it's a win win situation, but gravel is fine.
Agree. Sand is preferred, but smooth small grain gravel works; I used it for 20 years. I now have sand and prefer it, all my corys are in sand substrate tanks now. Either works. Just make sure it is not sharp-edged.
