You actually have many options available to you, which means if you want to do a little research, you can get some good deals on equipment. Your local pet stores will often carry fish supplies, and nearly all chain stores, such as Petco and Petsmart, will carry everything you need to start back into the hobby. I personally order my equipment online for several reasons. It is usually less expensive, you can usually avoid sales tax, and if you are patient you can often hit a "sale" where you don't pay shipping. Amazon has some good prices, and I have heard good things from other online pet suppliers (whose web sites elude my memory for the time being). Hope that helps! Others will probably offer advice about the other online sites, too.

Pb:

Tanks on line is very, very doubtful wrt to saving $'s.
IMHO your best bet is a good used tank.

My experience is that local vendors (such as Walmart and PetCo) typically offer only very, very low end products such as filters and if a LFS offers a high end product the cost is significantly more that the on-line purchase cost.

I have had good luck with
www.marinedepot.com
and can recommend them.

Their on-line help can "walk you through their web site" and also go to their storage in order area check on the availability of items which are not published.

I bought a lot of my stuff through my local fish store, he gave me 20% off all filter, heaters, etc. since I bought so much stuff. Other than that, I buy my stuff mostly at www.DrsFosterSmith.com. I would stear clear of Wal-mart stuff, I'm sure the tank is fine but I hear their filters/heaters are not great.

Personally, if you wanna save some check your local papers for advertisements. You can get some really great buys that way.

I think the best place is petsolutions.com, plus you get free shipping and a new catalog every 2 months.
