new to all this plants !!

HI

I have recently received a fish tank from my neighbor… long story short... I have a tank now and few fishes. I’ve been looking around and I am not able to find what I was looking for so I was wondering, I want to get few plants in my Tank. it’s about 16” by 16 “ by 32 “ and about 35 ish gallons if I did my math right ^^;.

a)If I get 3 to 5 plants, do I need to give it regular CO2 and Fertilizers?
b)Also lighting, is it required, well it is but like my tank it near a west facing window and it receives light till sunset, so I don’t know if that is ok or do I also have to give it light.
c)Last question is I have 2 small Koi (about 7 cm long) and 1 large koi ( or is it a goldfish?) (about 12 - 15 cm in length) it also came with 1 catfish I think it is a Golden Nugget plec (I think) and one 3 spotted Gourami (about 10 cm), will any of them eat the plants?

Thx !!

Welcome to Fishforum.com, Crusade.

What plants are you getting? CO2 is not really necessary unless you want fast growth. Yes, dose fertilizers to ensure plants get enough nutrients. Tablets can be bury near the plant roots and this will last longer than the liquid ferts.

Would prefer lighting. Stick with fluorescent lighting. Lighting chart is found in one of our sticky threads in this section. Sunlight alone will encourage too much algal growth.

Return the kois and goldfish. They require a very large pond, not a 35 gallons tank. And, yes, they will eat all your plants with the possible exception of Javan ferns and anubias.

i would find someone to take them. no point in putting plants in the tank because they will just eat them.

Build a pond or call all the fish stores in your area and ask if they will take them. You could also put a post up on craigslist giving them away.
