Cool story bro.
I have an apple snail and I wanted to know if he was a true apple snail or mystery snail. I knew mystery snails had no siphon but I confused my APPLE SNAIL'S(in the end I found out) penis sheath with a siphon. LOLOLOL:doh!:
So Mystery Snails don't have a siphon? I didn't know that so I have a Blue apple snail. I'm still trying to find out why he's been floating to the surface now and then. Crawls, eats, etc, but just decides to free float.
From what I know mystery snails do have a siphon. All three of mine do. Mystery snails are a species of apple snail Pomacea bridgesii. The mystery snail unlike other apple snails will not eat healthy plants and they do not get as large as other species of apple snails staying usually under 3 inches, were some of the other species of apple snails can get rather large some of them reaching softball size.
Actually they are two different species. Mystery snails are hard to come across and pet stores as apple snails are marketed as mysteries. Even where I live apple snails are illegal but sold anyway. My apple snail is an illegal snail-ien! -_-
There are many different species of apple snails, for anyone who is interested in reading more about different type of apple snails, or if you want to try to determine the species of apple snail that you have a good site to check out is www.applesnail.net This site has a lot of igood and useful information and may help to understand more about the different apple snails and mystery snails that are sold in the aquarium trade.
