Bad Fish Stores

I had to run out and get a replacement for a failed filter last night. I went to the Petco near Belmont & Ashland in Chicago. Guess what I saw:

There was one other tank in identical condition, a third tank packed with larger feeders with about half dead, and numerous other tanks with fish (still alive for the moment) sort of drifting around on their backs. I told an employee and she said "Yeah, they're just feeders. They die quick."

Damn! A few here and there is normal but dang... nothing like that.

Looks like a Walmart tank.

Call corporate and complain, someones ass needs to be chewed for this. If your going to kill off an entire tank due to ignorance then at least keep it clean so no one knows how stupid you are.

That makes me sad! :sob::shock::cry:

Absolutely repulsive, acting as if any animal doesn't matter just because of its intended purpose relating to food for other living things gives no one the right to dismiss it as trash or have any less value than any other household pet. If anything, these animals should be given solemn respect for the sacrifice they give to sustain the life of our beloved fish and other pets.

If I ever saw something like that at my own Petsmart, Pet Supplies Plus, or Walmart (though Walmart has disgusting tanks here and it makes me so angry, at least most of their fish are alive), I would chew them out so bad...

In fact, I wish I could save all the poor fishies from Walmart, it's a shame that I don't have enough tanks for them all. And buying them all would only fuel more desire to restock their filthy tanks and torture more fish...

Definitaly complain to some higher up. I emaild my local walmart after I saw their tanks, threatening to contact corporate if they did not get their act together and a few days layer the manager of the whole store personally contacted me and apologized and had them clean the tanks. They have been much better even since.

He even told me he knows nothing about fish and just assumed that the department responsible for the tanks was doing what he was supposed to do. So he gave me his contact info and told me to conact him directly if I ever felt the fish were being kept in bad shape.

Sometimes people will listen to you and change what they do. Don't get bummed if they ignore you or the tanks go bad again a few months later, but all you can do is try to contact them and hope for the best.
