Bugs in Cichlid tank!
I have a 55 gal tank with 4 fish, two jack dempseys, one convict and one sucker.
I turned on the light and looked at my fishtank threw the top of the tank, when i saw a clan of bugs hitting the filter and bouncing back, they were swimming. They have wings and look like bigger fruit flies. How do i get rid of them? What type of insect are these. Will they harm my fish? They are kind of white, but if you look closer, a little bit green. they kind of walk on water. Please help! There are litterally about 50. and so little I can scoop them out, i can try but I dont know.:-(
We have no live plants in out tank, when you look up from looking into the tank, you dont see them, only when you look down from the top.
Hmm they sound like springtails. They eat decaying matter. Tell me how often do you clean your filter media? When I was a novice keeper I didn't clean my filters reguraly and I would find lady bugs in the filter eating the decaying matter. Your tank is pretty heavily stocked so you need heavy filtration and you need to clean them reguraly.
I sadley have noticed some other shady things, my dad said it was alge, but i looked closely just a minute ago...alge is not sting like, and does not move. These were worms, and they are everywhere, on the wall, on the rocks on the gravel. HELP!
