Daz:

Obviously with the extent of the technology I have at my engineering/surveying company and being a real "computer guru" at an earlier point in time I was intensely interested in the deployment of Vista.

I had the feller who runs the day to day operations of my computer company and my "ace lieutenant" at Greystone "check into the current version of Vista".

They both reported that Vista "was a kludge" and recommended that we not deploy it until at least Service Pack 2, if indeed ever.

IMHO (and hopefully since your computer will support Vista this will work) I would install XP.

Please note that "what Microsoft is calling Vista" may never function adequately as it is really the first foray of Microsoft into the world of linear addressing of the 808x architecture instead of the historic Ax, Bx, etc segment/offset registers which goes back to the days of 16 bit emulation or the EAx, EBx, etc. segment/offset registers which goes back to the days of 32 bit emulation and which was implemented for backward compatibility.

Thanks for the info Ron.

Is there some kind of a 'patch' that can be downloaded to make it function though? We have been googling much of the afternoon and can't seem to find anything that works.

Kate:

Not that I know of except as set forth below.

If you have tried running Window's Update from the menu's and no joy then I have only have one other "pearl of wisdom":
www.microsoft.com
you can run update from there and this may fix it
and, if you feel lucky,
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/B...F-E7C0750ED02E

I hate to say this but with W98 and XP (and W2000 which I only read about) these type of problems were only really cured by the 1st comprehensive service pak.

Thanks for all the info - but I now have it working.

If anyone has the same problem, there is a Programme Compatability Wizard included with Vista (it's in the start menu somewhere). It tries different combinations of settings with the Programme of choice until it finds a combination that works. This is all done with the click of a button, and it worked for me :)
