Anyone here mated Senegal Bichirs before? Was just wondering how you went about stimulating them, with the process of changing the temperature and doing water changes at certain times (to simulate the dry and rainy season). How long was the wait for the eggs to be laid and how long does it take them to hatch? What do you feed the babies until they can eat larger food? And of course, do you have any pictures? :D Any other information would be awesome, too. |
hmm.. not sure if you've seen the profile.. it only has this mentioned Little is known about breeding but most bichir experts claim that the anal fin size often is an important factor in determining the gender of the bichir. Males are said to have wider anal fins in comparison to the females. Females lay their eggs in the cup-like anal fin of the male. Juveniles have external gills which will eventually disappear as it matures Read more: Senegal Bichir (Polypterus senegalus) Profile found this http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/pred...dingbichir.php |

I am ruminating on breeding Bichirs in the far future, certainly not anytime soon though. |
