Officially started my aquarium!
After some filtering, I added two curviceps chiclid to my 5.5 gal. tank.
Was that a smart move? =/

Well, they get to 3+ inches so they should be in a larger tank eventually. Are they the only ones in there? You will want to move them to a 20gal at least at some point.

Yeah, they're the only ones in there. And moving them to a larger tank shouldn't be a problem. Also, I fed them today and one kept nudging the other. It looked like aggresion. should I be worried?

They're also called Flag Cichlids, too, correct?

no, cichlids are aggressive fish and feeding time should bring that out in them.

just watch out for lip lock fights and if the one claims the tank as his territory, then you will have to relocate the other one because unlike the wild he has no other place to go.

cichlids are my favorite fish and i hope that you enjoy the new hobby.

if you plan on keeping just two or mabe one more i would suggest moving them to at least a 20 gal. LONG tank.

the 20 gal. long tanks are easy to take care of, give the fish 2 feet of space to swim around in and look really sharp if thats the only tank that you can afford on a budget.

Wow, thanks. I love ciclhids. :) A 20 gal should be fine for my budget. My birthday's tomorrow, so maybe I can get one. Your post helped me a lot. How do I know if one claims the tank? Should I make a hiding spot for the cichlid? & if they get in a liplock fight, what do I do? Break it up?

Setup rock caves for them. If they fight, leave them alone! But think of seperating them if it is ongoing.

yes, leave them alone if they are fighting. as said in the last post, sorry i did not make that clear...

but yeah give us some pictures!
