How to tell if Seprae Tetra is Male or Female
Hey everyone. Yesterday I bought four new fish for my tank which are Serpae Tetra fish! Here's my question. Are male serpae tetra fish larger than females? Only wondering as one of my four is signifficantly larger by about .2" than the others. I'm asking as I'm concerned if the larger ones are female, then I'm worried she will be pestered to mate and possibly die of stress. Although I haven't seen any of them being physically "interested" in another. Thanks for any help!

Edit: Addition to my previous post: I wouldn't worry to much about the pestering, unlike livebearers where the male is constantly trying to inseminate the female, with egg scatterers, the female is more in control and it goes in a cycle, when she is ready to release & scatter the eggs, the male/s will follow and fertilise the eggs. There may be some courtship display, coaxing the female into being interested, males will display dominance to other males, but the female doesn't experience harassment/stress like female livebearers go through ime/imo.

Yes I did notice a small display of two trying to show their dominance in front of the female. It did result in a small stand off that ended up with a fin nip but not major and it isn't visible and still swims perfectly and is still very healthy. The funny thing was the female seems to stay with the other male that wasn't involved in the small fight haha

Serpae need a larger group to ease the stress this is causing, as has already been witnessed. No less than 8-12 Serpae Tetra makes their lives livable.
