Neolamprologus multifasciatus Question
How would these interesting little fish do in conditions that were ideal except the pH of the water was between 7.0 and 7.4?
As long as you used tank raised fish and acclimate slowly I don't see it being much of a problem. Tank raised fish will adapt to most water conditions as long as the water isn't too low in pH. Your water is right around neutral.
The hardness is more of the issue, as rift lake fish need mineral in the water. Any idea of the hardness of your tap water? It is easy to raise hardness (and corresponding pH) by natural means if necessary, and in a fairly small tank even easier.
Where can I find shells that would be helpful?

There you go. They have all different shells for you to pick from. Since multis are small they can fit in pretty much anyone but read the descriptions to see which ones are compatible. Or better yet post the ones you like and I can tell you if they are suitable.
