Cleaning Aquarium Decor?
I was wondering what suggestions would be on cleaning the decor. I have a 10g and a 29g and the decor gets dirty very easily and it can be very difficult to get the build up off. I know that this is probably good for the tank for it to be like this, but it does not look very attractive at all. In the 29g its not as big of an issue, the rocks and wood decor i have are already covered in build up but it does make the appearance of the tank look bad. In the 10g however it does as there is a small tent decor and a brightly colored cave. And also on cleaning the fake plants without having to replace them every two months. When scrubbing them all the "leaves" fall off... Just kinda curious if there is an easier way to clean everything or if it's just supposed to get dirty and you just replace when it when it looks too bad... Any suggestions would be helpful!

I throw my aquarium stuff iin the dishwasher with either vinegar or salt where the detergent is suppose to go. It comes out squeeky clean :-)

Lol! The luxury of dishwashers! Don't have one. Do you use regular white vinegar. I wonder if maybe boiling them in vinegar or vinegar water mix would help.

Yes that would be fine , I didn't know if your decor was too big to fit in a pot . Once boiled with vinegar or salt just change the water and boil again for 10 mins to rinse it .

Super! Thanks! Does this work for fake plastic plants as well. Have you ever tried this method? No scrubbing involved the grime just comes off? Is this bad for the tank taking away good bacteria?

Some of the more stubborn dirt may need a scrub but it should all just come off whilst in a boil. It will take off the good bacteria but depending on how established your tank is then it wont make a big difference as the good bacteria should be established in your substrate, glass walls of the aquarium and filter/ heater. . . . I wouldnt recommend cleaning it if its a newly setup tank (under 2-3 months old)
