I have 3 balloon mollies. One male and two females. When my male tries to go after my females, they either nip back or swim away fast. I really just want some fry, for a hobby, not for a major breeding place. I was wondering why the females are trying to get away from mating. And any tips on how to mate them faster?
My female platys will swim away from my male platys also, but they do get pregnant. I have about 40 fry over 2 weeks old to prove it. Keep the water clean, and just give it time. If in the next few months you don't see you females to be pregnant than it could be you have an infertile male. But for now I would not worry about it and just give them time.
Thank you! I will wait it out, and keep the water clean, alsoth it is really clean right now (:
Sailfin Molly Pregnant?
Hi I have a white sailfin that has a really dark gravid spot, she doesnt appear to be very fat but could she be pregnant?
I have another sailfin that has a smaller gravid spot also
To make your Mollies very happy and ready to breed, add some salt to the water and have the tank temperature set at 26 degrees Celsius (78 degrees Fahrenheit), and have plenty of plants, real or artificial, then stand by for the action!
Down here in Aust. we can buy "neutraliser blocks" from aquarium shops and even some supermarkets, they are generally in the shape of an "N" or even in the shape of a treasure chest and they look like chalk, and cost around $2 to $3. These blocks slowly dissolve over a couple of weeks. The blocks contain a small amount of salt-----just what Mollies need.
Keep a block in your tank at all times, and change a small amount of the tank water every 2 weeks, they have to live in it, so it's like giving them a breath of fresh air.
