Noob question about filters
So I am starting my very first aquarium and am doing a saltwater. I am a newbie at this so please keep the technical language to a minimum. But the question I have is this:
I have a 45-gallon tank. I am planning on not having a sump, just having a bak-pak 2 protein skimmer and a heater in the tank, along with live rock. Do I need an additional filter as well or will the live rock, live sand, and protein skimmer suffice?
enough live rock ( so, about 1 to 2 #s per gallon estimate ) with good flow along with your skimmer is all you need.
Whats the best way to ensure good waterflow?
2 powerheads on either side of the tank.
Thank you for your help!
Im sorry but I have another stupid question. How does a submersible powerhead work? I mean, how do you plug it in if it is underwater? I guess I do not understand....
not at all a stupid question. there will never be a stupid question, only a stupid answer.
powerhead pumps are submersible and go inside the tank. the cord comes out and gets plugged in outside of the tank. look into hydor k pumps as they are pretty cheap and effective, or if you have the money tunzes or ecotechs.
now, you may want to ask around a few more questions/do alittle more reading before jumping into this. research and patience are key in this hobby.
