Molly Fry!

Well I wasn't expecting this so soon. I have 2 female red sail fin Mollies in my 46g bow.

I noticed I had a couple of snails I hadn't seen before and I was looking around for others when I noticed them.

There's no way I would be able to get the fry out of the tank. It only has the 2 Mollies and 6 cherry barbs in the tank currently. Hoping they survive! I've crushed up fish flake and put in there. Hard to see if they get any of it.

Here's some horrible pics from my cell:

Any advice?

Snails should pose little to no risk to live bearer fry, since they are free swimming when they come into this world they should easily be able avoid the slow moving snails, and any that aren't able to avoid them should probably be culled anyways. The nice thing about snails is they will eat any fry that you cant see that die and might otherwise add to the biological load on the tank. If it was an egg scattering or laying species I might be a little concerned about the eggs but with livebearer fry I wouldn't worry at all.

Oh I wasn't worried about the snails at all. Just mentioned them because they were new and when I was looking for others that's when I noticed the fry.

Seems most of them have survived so far.

I crushed up flake food and sprinkle it in the tank and I threw a couple of sinking shrimp pellets and they were eating those also.

They all have new hiding spots now so it's hard to count them.

Update. Counted 11 fry today. That's all I counted in the very beginning. I've never seen a dead one. It would be amazing if they all survived.

They love those sinking shrimp pellets. Once they get soft they are there eating away. (Wardley brand)

They are out swimming around more these days. Not afraid of much. 2 of them were right there eating next to my Dojo Loach tonight.

Well these guys are getting bigger and there was a second batch.

I'm moving them to another tank because I'm getting a few Pikes. I was able to catch them pretty easily. There are a few more left I need to try and get out. I caught 16 so far. Hard to count how many more there are.

Get ready to have so many you don't know what to do with them, I like to keep all my livebearers in the community tank with a larger predator to take out the fry so the numbers thin to just 1 or 2 that were really smart.

Pretty sure the Pikes will take them all out. I'm having a hard time catching the last 3 Cherry Barbs and 4 Rasboras. Also can't catch the mom Molly.

There's one Zebra Danio but I'm leaving him in there.

I'll keep trying but unless they get caught in the next few days they are going to be Pike food.
