is it bad that my BGK doesnt hide at all. he stays out in the open all day and just swims by the filter and plays in the bubbles from the bubbler

Has he adequate places to hide that are unoccupied by other fish?

he has places to hide but he doesnt want to hide that are not claimed by other fish lol it seems weird but i dont mind since i get to see him :lol:

As long as he is out and about by choice, and not cause he feels forced, then I wouldn't worry.

it is not uncommon for these fish to come out if they do not feel threatened and the light is not to bright alot of people dont kno that knife fish are nocternal until they do indeepth research on them i have one that is starting to come out of his hidding place and explore the tank as he is only 4 inches long and the 4th smallest fish in the tank.

I envy you.:roll: My BGK will come out mostly at night or during feeding time. Guess I'll construct more pipes rather than stick with a very large cave created by a large pile of rocks. He had to share it with several loaches.:lol:

maybe he doesnt feel threatened because almost all my fish are the same size lol but my bichir is the largest of all
