Designed by Byron?
I'm going to set up a 10g planted aquarium with the purpose of breeding ramshorn snails to feed a figure 8 puffer.
After reading and looking at all Byron's amazing tanks I thought... Why not let him decide what it should contain??? There's no reason why a little breeder tank can't look cool. :-)
Possible buying the tank tomorrow to get started. (The puffer tank is currently cycling)
The only thing that I will be adding on my own will be some cypress knees I just ordered from LA. They will be cleaned and then weighted with possibly slate or some other sort of rock. I figure slate will work the best and will sit flat on the bottom.
If you will kind sir, design my tank!
I'm excited!
You should PM him to make sure he sees this. ; )
I'll see it in this section;-)...but I need a day off once in a while. Had to trek into Vancouver yesterday, but on the plus side I did bring back some fish.:-D
On the substrate, sand or fine gravel but in small tanks I am becoming very fond of sand. Playsand works well.
If you can find them, Malaysian Libearer snails are also excellent for puffers, my dwarf puffer cleaned out my 10g of these snails except for a very few that remained in the sand.
What are the cypress knees?
Those crazy trees that grow down in Louisiana.
The roots shoot up out of the swamp to get air. They call these the "knees."
People cut those off and carve them or whatever.
Good on the sand. I'll try to locate some dark play sand or just get some black sand from the LFS.
I've read numerous places that MTS shells are too hard for the figure 8's? That's why I was going to go with the ramshorn.
LOL What a good way to spend a day off. What new fish did you get?
Not sure, but rather than the hard shell it may be the "trapdoor" the MLS have; loaches find it difficult to dig them out because of this.
I got my playsand from Home Depot, I believe Lowe's also carries it. Quikrete is the brand. It is tan/grayish in colour, apparently near identical to the sand in the Rio Negro in Amazonia.
That's good. I have both Lowe's and HD really close so I will check them.
I'm thinking 10lbs?
I'll stick with ramshorn for peace of mind. I've read the MTS is too hard on several figure 8 articles.
