Are my gouramis breeding? Lots of pictures!
I have a male(I think) gold gourami and a female(I think lol) blue gourami. I just moved them into a 55 gallon planted tank from a 20 gallon kinda planted(2 plants) tank today. The new tank has floating plants and plenty of places to hide. They are currently sharing the tank with 5 guppy fry. Tonight when I looked in the tank I noticed some bubble nest looking bubbles mixed in with the floating plants and actually caught the gold gourami adding more bubbles to the ones that were already there. I have not actually seen the two of them spawning but they look like they are trying or getting ready to. They are being protective of the area and any time I go near the tank instead of swimming away(which they usually do) they stare me down lol. Do you think they are getting ready to spawn? I don't have an extra tank to put the fry in once they hatch. Will the parents eat their babies? What should I be feeding the fry if these two do produce any babies? I took a few pictures of the two and their nest. How can I tell which fish is the male and which is the female? Thanks in advance!
The gold one is defently a male
But a blue and gold can spawn cause they are both the 3 spotted Grouramis, just different colors, but watch and see if they actually spawn, im pretty sure it looks like their doing tight circles around each other
Thanks for the info guys :) The guppy fry pretty much stay out of the way of the gouramis and the gouramis don't really pay them any attention at all. Thanks for the compliments!
Feed the fry baby brine shrimp. When they develop their 'feelers', you can switch them to crushed flake.
The gold is a male. The blue from what I can see looks female. The dorsal fin on the females are shorter and more rounded, the male's are longer and more pointed.
Good luck with your fish and keep us posted if they spawn.
