Stars and Stripes Puffer partially puffed I absolutely love this fish! He was literally three times this size before we managed to grab a camera to take these pictures with. Unfortunately he had already expelled most of the water... Don't try this at home! :P http://fishforum.com/userpix/2_P1011655_1.jpg http://fishforum.com/userpix/2_P1011658_1.jpg |
And here I thought they inflated and deflated like a balloon. That is just too funny. Looks it is trying to imitate a whale. |
Fantastic picture Mike! How exactly do they puff-up? And is it true that they can do themselves damage in the procees? |
Chris - Before he deflated to the size in the picture, he did look like a balloon! He was literally a ball with eyes and it even took us a while to locate his eyes! Kate - They puff up by drawing in water when they are frightened. I'm not sure what spooked Shamu here. I have heard that they can do themselves damage by puffing, and I've been concerned for my fish's welfare each time I've caught him doing it. Fortunately he has only done it several times since we've got him. You'd think he'd know better with all of the public service announcements teaching that puffing is wrong! :smoke: |
This always cracks me up. I barely got my Porcupine Puffer and he looked just like this the first hour or so after placing him in the tank(just add length to the needles  |
Oooooooohhhhhh!:shock2: Nice one.8) |
