I have 1 question are bala sharks and tricolor sharks the same thing as i was told tricolor shark but thought they were the same as balas am i wrong?
according to badman's website, they sure appear to be the same fish. I was told bala = silver shark, but whatever. it would appear youre right, that bala = tricolor :)
I find common names quite useless when there are other names synonymous to the more popular one. A scientific name stuck to it will really help.;)
but i dont remember latin
imho they should change their name completely to "UBER DEATH DESTRUCTO MACHINES". on the other hand i doubt people would believe they are peaceful fish.
sometimes I open my mouth, and I really have no idea what comes out of it. <wanders off>
They used to be called Tricolor sharks when I was growing up.
Bala sharks are big and silvery. Latin name is Balantiocheilus melanopterus. Sometimes called Tricolor Sharks and Apollo Sharks. Get a foot long and should be in a shoal of 6 or more in a 6x2 foot or bigger tank.
Rainbow Sharks, Epalzeorhynchos frenatus, have black (dark grey) bodies and red (orange) fins. They get about 6" long and cn be kept in a 4x1' tank. They are essentially the same thing as a red tailed black shark, with all the fins red.
