What would be best

I have a new 17L tank and I am wondering what would be the best invertebrate to get for this tank and how to best prepare the tank for them.
Initialy I am interested in shrimp or crayfish.

well, what do you want the invert. for?

sik80 07-30-2011 07:30 AM

depends what else is in the tank? I think crayfish will take small fish at night

It's just as an alternative to fish.
The tank will be cycled by fish but they are going to be moved to a larger tank before I get something else for the current tank.

Cycling a tank with fish is unnecessary and just harmful to the fish, especially if you already have tank that you can just take the filter media and shake it in the new tank to seed the new filter. 4.5 gallons is awfully small for anything, I guess a couple shrimp or snails would be fine.

you can have a nice little brood of cherry shrimp in there with a some plants.

Thanks for the advice guys, im moving my fish from the 2 tanks into a new larger tank and plan on adding cherry shrimp to one of the spares.
Any advice on making the tank as accomadating as possible for cherry shrimp?

cherry shrimp are super easy...

java moss some filtration and good quality food (shirakura) and you're off to the races..

You'll have babies in no time. Water changes could be tricky as they are so small. Filter into a bucket and net them back into the tank.

Im getting very excited now moved the fish from the first tank into the 65L setup they seem very happy with all the new space.

Planning on moving the rest over the course of the next week with the Betta going last.

This will leave me with a choice of the 2 17L tanks to chose from to home the shrimp.
Attached are photographs of the tanks.
(i know one has very brown water thats from a piece of supposedly treated wood that has been removed from the tank, and the water will be changed before anything goes to live in there)
Which would be best?

I would just add make sure you have a plan as you will have way more shrimp quickly than will fit in there. I sell mine but a lot of times I can't get rid of as many as I need to but I have plenty of room for them.
