i have a sort of floating plant in my tank, and i'm not sure what it is, or how it even got there. there are several little two leaf plants, with tiny roots floating on the surface. they seem to reproduce somewhat rapidly. since i only have about 6 months experience with planted tanks, this is the first time i've seen this. i would like to know what this is, and theorize about how it got there. thank you.

It spreads like mad and only takes one plant to launch an invasion... I suspect they can even be transported in a fish's gills, but I'm not sure. Often they sneak in on plants or driftwood.

They're actually good for the ecosystem, and absorb high levels of nitrates and ammonia. Just remove a couple handfuls once a week so your plants get enough light.
