55 Gallon Tank Questions??????????

I have a 55 with 4 3-5 inch silver dollars, 3 2-4 inch pictus catfish, 1 4inch black ghost knife, 2 Plecos, and a 6 inch Bala Shark.

My question is should i get 1 or 2 more balas? These will replace tin foil barbs.

And yes i kno i need to get rid of a pleco as one is 7 inches and 1 is 11 inches.

Well, you really should have 5ish similar sized bala's since they are a schooling fish. But that would probably overcrowd your tank....not sure what to do in this case....

This bala is schooling with the silver dollars and is years old. I got him in a 29 with a powder blue cichlid and a bumblebee mouthbrooder. I also got the 7 inch plec out of there. I received the tank over the weekend and all of the fish are multiple years old. ( right now the bumblebee is ready to breed). I can get balas at some of the lfs around my houses but they are either 3-4 inches or 10+ inches.

I'm with jsm11482 here. Getting more would overcrowd the tank as they require a LOT of swimming space, but they do prefer to be in groups. I think the BEST idea is to take the bala back to the lfs, even thoguh you didn't get him there but then again he might not go to a home any bigger or with any other balas either! It's a tricky one.

Sorry this wasn't of much help.

i figure he is better off in that then the 29 being beat up by the powder (believe it or not he would hang out with the bumblebee and the bumblebee would protect him for the most part  )

A 55 is too small for any Balas. They really need a 6' tank. Though not really the same sort of fish, imagine a foot long zebra danio. Balas move like that. They get a foot long and need lots of swimming room. If you can't find a better place for the one than the 55, then keep him there, but don't add any more.

thanks for the info i just didnt like to see him being beat up on.
