Bamboo shrimp question

I've had my Bamboo shrimp for months now, but I always stress that he/she isn't getting enough food. Is it really true that if they are picking off the bottom that means they are "starving"? I have a place for him to be near the water outflow, but he doesn't use it, and stays on a leaf and filter feeds there. I use a syringe to target near him food meant for baby shrimp (very tiny powder I put in syringe, from Japan) and he still picks off the bottom. I worry about him, but don't know what else to do. I noticed him just now picking through the sand. Ugh!

Amazon sword is the same plant mine hangs on. He actually sits under the leaf and fans there.

mine is ruining the leafs because he'll rap all his legs around the leaf and curl them, he doesn't fan but I see him walking around eating the sinking wafers every once in a while, I guess they know when to eat and where

Mine is always fanning, never sifting and he doesn't touch any of the sinking wafers I feed the cherry shrimp. I rarely see him because he never moves from in front of the powerhead. Mine is in my filterless tank.

A higher flow pump may change that. The LOVE high flow.. the more the merrier.

I have a HOB

I have a HOB filter too, but some day I'm going to put in the canister filter I have. I recently put a log in that has holes, and I hoped he'd sit on top of that, as it's under the filter output, but no, he is now inside the log. I've given up worry about him, but it's frustrating.

I had another bamboo shrimp that fanned all the time, but he climbed out of the tank, and that was the end of him :(

they've been known for that trait
