fish store reviews?

Is there somewhere on this forum where people review stores? I have been going to one and now most of my fish i got there are dead. I want to know if other people have had problems with this store and if there are other ones near by that people would recommend.

The store in question is MVP in Portage, MI. I live in Kalamazoo and really want somewhere else to go, but the next best option i'm aware of it PetCo. let me know if there is a place for this kind of information or if people in southwest Michigan have any info for me.

Thanks.

Welcome to TFK kendra, are you sure its just bad stock coming from the store? Did you properly acclimate the fish before adding them to your tank? Was your tank cycled and had water conditioner?

I think these are just few questions you need to ask first before you try and steer people away from this shop, also have you been back to the fish shop and asked them to help rectify the issue? A good fish shop will ask for a water sample from your tank to see if there might be anything causing the issues and ask you questions about your setup. And if there was a problem with the stock then they probably had other customers come in complaining about it and they should issue you a prompt refund or store credit.

Its always worth it to try and see if the fish shop stands behind their service and product, if so this is a good fish shop if not then go right ahead and slam them but even good fish shops will get in bad stocks of fish from time to time, and may not be able to tell until they've sold the fish, its how they deal with problems like these that make them a good or bad shop.

The fish always took at least a week after being added to my tank to die, i acclimated them properly, and my tank was cycled and everything. when i asked them about it, they were no help at all. i asked them to test my water, and all they said is that everything looks fine. they had no questions for me and no advice. and i talked to at least two different people there. i had previous issues with one person there, who was trying to tell me things that i know to have been simply wrong (i don't remember what exactly it was now).

i have to imagine that i should have taken it as a bad sign when all three of their display tanks had a lot of algae and the fish in them look only ok, not good.

well all make mistakes and buy fish from not so good stores someimes.we love fish and sometimes it clouds our judgement.... we can go into a store ans say oh look the fish aren't very well in some of the tanks then see exactly what we are looking for...what happens.... we BUY it

Also keep in mind, some stores may have bad suppliers. If you let them know that the fish you are purchasing from them are from inferior stock, they may look into getting a better supplier for their fish. a petco near me used to get fish with mild cases of ick. After a few customers complained, they started to purchase from another supplier and the stock that came in was very good.

well, they know that almost everything that me and a friend bought from them died. they really didn't seem to care.

never buy from them again and make sure others don't too if they really were selling bad quality or sickly fishes

Then perhaps it really is time to move on to another store. Stores like this will eventually stop carrying fish if people realize they are carrying bad stock and move to other stores.

Only buy from a store that has a 14 day return if the fish does not survive. Good stores stand behind their products...including the stock.
