New fish laying eggs
The Jewel Cichlid I got just Sunday that I quaranteed in the 40 Long are laying eggs! I have raised convict and mouth brooders before. But Since I didn't get the tank gravel changed to sand or the bottom gravel (bog peat underneath) out will the fry make it?
Can I vacumn the gravel or will that cause them to eat the eggs? Should I just do slight water changes? Suggestions?
The fry should be fine but I would wait to change the gravel obviously. When my centrals breed I perform water changes as normal but I am careful not to disturb my pair of fish so I do things like vacuum on the other side of the tank. Plus if your fish are anything like mine they will attack the siphon when you clean lol. Jewels are hardy fish I am sure the parents will do a great job at defending their fry.
Well the larger of the two ate the eggs? I added a few flat rocks...places to hide and started to vaccumn the gravel. They got very upset so I stopped and just added fresh water. Now the larger one was circling the rock.... pictures are posted under Picts and video Titled: Caught in 'egging"
But now I don't know if it is a pair or two females. Both are fanning though.... see the photos... it shows larger ones oppositor.
So as I am watching them and the peacock for illness/health they are laying eggs and pestering the peacock if he comes out anytime but feeding time. I guess they are happy in the quarantee
