Hi Willow.

The only surefire way is that females are larger and plumper whereas males are smaller and slimmer. No, it's the opposite and some will argue it's true and some not. Females appear to have distorted straight stripe due to being plump. I have not observed crooked stripes in all neons I've kept before unless they are plump.:?

No problem with sex ratio.:) They will however still establish pecking order among their group and possibly on other tetra species.

Good luck.;)
