My Molly Died(Please Read)
Ok so i bought three mollies from a pretty good fish store 3 days ago. THey were doing fine and were happy and i was looking and one was on the bottom and not moving except for the occasional tail movement :( so i watched and it layed on its side and i made sure for 5 more minutes amd it stopped moving completly and i freezed it liek the sticky said to do :( :( :(
Pls answer the following question as this will help you know what the problem is.
1. Is your tank cycled?
2. How long has your tank been running?
3. What is the size of your tank?
4. What are your water stats?
5. Have you use any toxic sprays? Fumes tend to penetrate your tank thus poisoning the fish.
Mollies are generally hardy but will not survive very well if your tank hasn't cycled.
I suggest you do fishless cycling for that case.
1.The ammonia is 0 if that counts
2.about 2-3 yrs now
3.10 gallon(will soon be a 55 gallon!)
4.I only have ammonia test strips  ammonia is 0 like i said above
5.Nope-e-nope im very careful aroudn my fish with things liek that
hope ya can help me
ps-both of the other mollies are doing fine and eating and pooing xD
Might have just been a 'bad' fish, if it was a new one. I work part-time in a pet store, and twice daily we do something called DFL (we removed dead fish from the tanks and write down what we removed). There are ALWAYS dead mollies, platys, swordtails, and neon tetras (hardly ever any cichilds, hatchetfish, or other tetras).
You'll need to test the following parameters:
Ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and pH. Add GH(General Hardness) and KH(Carbonate Hardness) if necessary.
and to blue i will buy the test strips for the cichlids!
The test strips do not give accurate readings.
If I were you I would ditch them and go with a liquid test kit instead.
Also, how did you acclimate the fish?
